About this card

Cards #472-479 and #487-494 are the sixteen four-player Rookie Prospects cards. A Rookie Prospects card is a rookie card for the players on it who had no earlier Topps flagship card - on #472, #473, #474, #475, #487, #489, #491 and #493 at least one of the four had already appeared on one, and the rookie-card answer on each card names the players it counts for.

The story on this card

Alexander hit .303 for the Giants in 1977, with 5 home runs and 20 RBI. He played 51 games and caught 33 of them. His rookie card is #476, the Rookie Prospects card he shares with Rick Cerone of the Indians, Dale Murphy of the Braves and Kevin Pasley of the Dodgers. Murphy's presence makes it one of the key rookie cards of the set. Catcher Gary Alexander caught John Montefusco's 1976 no-hitter for the Giants, went to Oakland in the 1978 Vida Blue trade, and hit 27 home runs that year between the A's and Indians. He played 432 games over seven seasons.

On April 7, 1977, Cerone caught the first pitch in Blue Jays history, thrown by Bill Singer in wintry conditions at Exhibition Stadium. He broke his thumb days later, spent time at Charleston, and hit his first major league home run off Nelson Briles after his August recall, finishing at .200 in 31 games. His rookie card, #476, is a Rookie Prospects card printed with Cleveland and shared with Gary Alexander, Dale Murphy and Kevin Pasley, a key rookie card of the set. Rick Cerone was a catcher for eight clubs from 1975 to 1992, the first starting catcher in Toronto Blue Jays history and Thurman Munson's successor with the 1980 Yankees, later a broadcaster and owner of the Newark Bears.

Murphy spent most of 1977 at Richmond, where he hit .305 with 22 home runs and a league-leading 90 RBI, then reached Atlanta in September. His first two major league homers came on September 15 in an 8-7, ten-inning win at San Diego, the second off Rollie Fingers. The four-player Rookie Prospects card #476 pairs his Braves picture with Gary Alexander of the Giants, Rick Cerone of the Indians and Kevin Pasley of the Dodgers. Atlanta Braves outfielder who won back-to-back NL Most Valuable Player awards in 1982 and 1983, five straight Gold Gloves, and seven All-Star selections. He hit 398 career home runs between 1976 and 1993, and the Braves retired his number 3.

Pasley opened the year at Albuquerque, hitting .304 in 69 games, before the Dodgers called him up for a game against the Phillies on August 6 and sent him back on August 17. He debuted for Seattle on September 11 against Texas and went 5 for 13 in four games for the Mariners, finishing at 6 for 16 across both clubs. Topps put him on rookie card #476, printed with the Dodgers and shared with Gary Alexander, Rick Cerone and Dale Murphy. Catcher who played 55 major league games for the Dodgers and Mariners between 1974 and 1978, hitting .254. He hit his only home run in his last big-league at-bat and played in the minors through 1982.
