The story on this card
Oakland traded Batton to Pittsburgh with Phil Garner and Tommy Helms in the spring of 1977. His rookie card, 1977 Topps #475, still shows him with the Athletics in the Rookie Prospects subset. It also pictures Rick Camp with Atlanta, Scott McGregor with Baltimore and Manny Sarmiento with Cincinnati. Chris Batton was a right-handed Oakland pitcher selected in the 1972 draft. He reached the majors in September 1976 after pitching for the Athletics' Triple-A club in Tucson.
Camp's 1977 season brought a 6-3 record, a 4.00 ERA and 10 saves in 54 relief appearances for Atlanta. His rookie card is #475, a Rookie Prospects card shared with Chris Batton of the Athletics, Scott McGregor of the Orioles and Manny Sarmiento of the Reds. Rick Camp was an Atlanta Braves right-hander from 1976 to 1985, a reliever in 1980-81 who later started, and the pitcher who hit a game-tying 18th-inning home run in the July 4-5, 1985 marathon against the Mets.
McGregor's first outing of 1977 brought his first major league win, 7 1/3 innings against Cleveland at Memorial Stadium on April 20. Five of his 29 appearances that year were starts, and in September he saved both ends of a doubleheader in Toronto. He finished 3-5 with a 4.42 ERA in 114 innings. His #475 is a Rookie Prospects card shared with Chris Batton of the Athletics, Rick Camp of the Braves and Manny Sarmiento of the Reds, with McGregor printed as an Oriole. Scott McGregor, a left-hander who pitched his entire 1976-1988 career for the Baltimore Orioles, won 20 games in 1980 and shut out the Phillies in Game 5 to clinch the 1983 World Series.
Sarmiento debuted on July 30, 1976, and went 5-1 with a 2.06 ERA in 22 games for the Reds, who won the World Series. In the NLCS against Philadelphia he pitched one inning and allowed two runs. In 1977 he appeared in 24 games with a 2.45 ERA and one save. His rookie card is #475, a Rookie Prospects card printed with the Reds and shared with Chris Batton (Athletics), Rick Camp (Braves) and Scott McGregor (Orioles). Manny Sarmiento was a Venezuelan right-hander who pitched for the Reds, Mariners and Pirates between 1976 and 1983. A rookie on the 1976 Reds, he made 17 starts for the 1982 Pirates and finished 26-22 with a 3.49 ERA.
