About Bill Miller

William Paul Miller was a left-handed pitcher, born July 26, 1927, in Minersville, Pennsylvania, who reached the majors with the New York Yankees on April 20, 1952. Over four big-league seasons he pitched for the Yankees (1952-1954) and the Baltimore Orioles (1955), compiling a 6-9 record and a 4.24 ERA across 41 appearances (18 starts) with 131 2/3 innings, five complete games and two shutouts. Miller earned two World Series rings as a member of the Yankees' 1952 and 1953 champions, though he never appeared in a postseason game. After the 1954 season he was swept up in one of the largest trades in baseball history, the 17-player Yankees-Orioles swap of November-December 1954 that also moved future Series stars Don Larsen and Bob Turley; he pitched only five games for Baltimore in 1955 before being sent to the minors, closing out his major-league career. His card, #100 in the second series of the 1953 Topps set, exists with the back biography printed in either black or white text, a minor catalogued variation.
