About Bill Mosienko
Winnipeg's Bill Mosienko — "Mosie" to the fans — was spotted on his hometown's outdoor rinks by Chicago's Joe Cooper and signed at 18, then spent all 14 of his NHL seasons (1942-1955) as a Black Hawks right winger. Flanking Max and Doug Bentley on the famed Pony Line, so named for the trio's speed and small stature, he won the 1944-45 Lady Byng Trophy without taking a single penalty minute, earned Second Team All-Star honors in 1945 and 1946, and skated in five All-Star Games. His immortal moment came March 23, 1952: three goals in 21 seconds past the Rangers' Lorne Anderson, Gus Bodnar assisting all three — still the fastest hat trick in NHL history. This is no rookie card; #54 catches the 33-year-old in his farewell 1954-55 campaign, before he left to launch the WHL's Winnipeg Warriors. He retired seventh in all-time NHL scoring with 540 points and entered the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1965.
