About Ray Timgren
Topps caught Ray Timgren near the end of the line. The Toronto Marlboros product jumped to the Maple Leafs in December 1948, made the All-Star Game, and finished third in Calder voting as a rookie. Nicknamed the 'Golden Boy' for the color of his hair, the left winger skated on Toronto's 'Three Feathers' line alongside Max Bentley and Joe Klukay — three lightweights who did heavy lifting. Timgren posted three goals and three assists in the 1949 playoffs, including a goal and an assist in the clincher, then added a second Stanley Cup in 1951. Toronto dealt him to Chicago for Jack Price on October 4, 1954; his Black Hawks stint lasted 14 games before a loan to the AHL's Pittsburgh Hornets, where he capped 1954-55 with a Calder Cup. He retired with 58 points in 251 NHL games and became a Toronto-area school principal whose motto was 'Do it now!' Not a rookie card — Timgren's NHL run was nearly over when Topps pictured him in Chicago silks.
