About Pete Conacher
Cardboard doesn't get more blue-blooded than this. Pete Conacher — born Charles Jr., son of Maple Leafs legend "Big Bomber" Charlie Conacher and nephew of Hall of Famers Lionel and Roy — was Chicago property at 16, and a 120-point junior season with the Galt Black Hawks (53 goals, 67 assists in 1951-52) punched his ticket to the NHL. The left winger's best year came in 1953-54, when he potted 19 goals for the Black Hawks. Topps shows him in Chicago colors here, but the ink was barely dry: on November 23, 1954, he and Bill Gadsby were dealt to the Rangers for Allan Stanley and Nick Mickoski. Conacher finished with 47 goals in 229 NHL games across Chicago, New York and Toronto, then regained amateur status and won the 1959 World Championship in Prague with the Belleville McFarlands before starring as a 30-goal winger for Hershey in the AHL. Not his rookie card — his cardboard debut came earlier — but a key name from hockey's first family.
