About Bob Goldham
A Georgetown, Ontario product who starred for the Toronto Marlboros juniors — two seasons that earned him the nickname "Golden Boy" — Goldham broke in with the Maple Leafs in 1941-42 and won a Stanley Cup as a rookie before serving three years in the Royal Canadian Navy. Back in Toronto he added a 1947 Cup, then headlined the five-player package Chicago received for Max Bentley that fall. A 1950 trade sent the right-shooting defenceman to Detroit, where fearless shot-blocking earned him a second nickname, the "Second Goalie," and anchored Red Wings Cup wins in 1952, 1954, and 1955. He skated in six NHL All-Star Games and made the 1954-55 Second All-Star Team — the very season of this card, which is not his rookie. Retired after 1955-56, Goldham became a longtime Hockey Night in Canada analyst and entered Canada's Sports Hall of Fame posthumously in 2015.
