About Glen Skov
Glen Skov centered the supporting cast on Detroit's early-1950s powerhouse, and this card catches him in his final Motor City season. A Wheatley, Ontario native who came up through the Windsor Spitfires, Skov debuted with the Red Wings in 1949-50 and by 1951-52 was a fixture, playing four straight full 70-game seasons while Detroit hoisted the Stanley Cup in 1952, 1954, and 1955. He skated in the NHL All-Star Game during the 1953-54 campaign and posted 30 points in 1954-55 before moving to Chicago, where he spent five seasons and hit a career-best 42 points in 1956-57. Three games with Montreal in 1960-61 closed out a 12-year NHL run of 650 games, 106 goals, and 242 points. The younger brother of referee Art Skov, Glen appears here on 1954-55 Topps #16 -- not his rookie card, as he was already a five-year veteran and three-time Cup champion.
