1954-55 Topps #4 Johnny Wilson

About Johnny Wilson
Card #4 in 1954-55 Topps catches Johnny Wilson mid-prime — and mid-streak. From 1951 to 1960 the durable left winger suited up for 580 consecutive games, a run that made him the NHL's second "Iron Man" and hung that nickname on him for good. Born in Kincardine, Ontario and raised in Shawinigan Falls, Quebec, Wilson starred for the junior Windsor Spitfires before signing with Detroit in September 1949; a late-season call-up put his name on the 1950 Stanley Cup, and he added three more with the Wings in 1952, 1954, and 1955, plus All-Star Game appearances in 1954 and 1956. Days after the '55 Cup, Jack Adams dealt him to Chicago in an eight-player blockbuster, only to reacquire him in the infamous Ted Lindsay trade. Stops in Toronto and New York closed a 688-game, 161-goal career in 1962. Not a rookie card, but a four-Cup winner who later coached Detroit, Colorado, and Pittsburgh — and hockey ran in the family through brother Larry and nephew Ron Wilson.
