The 1957 Baltimore Orioles reached a milestone under manager and general manager Paul Richards, finishing 76–76 — the franchise's first non-losing season since 1945, when it was still the St. Louis Browns. Playing at Memorial Stadium, Baltimore placed fifth in the eight-team American League, 21 games behind the pennant-winning Yankees (98–56), who then fell to the Milwaukee Braves in the World Series. First baseman Bob Boyd hit .318 to finish fourth in the AL batting race — the first modern Oriole to top .300 for a full season — while catcher Gus Triandos supplied the power with 19 home runs and 72 RBIs. Veteran third baseman George Kell batted .297, and Connie Johnson anchored the pitching staff at 14–11 with a 3.20 ERA. The .500 finish signaled that Richards' patient rebuild in Baltimore was taking hold.
