1957 Topps #245 Rip Repulski

About Rip Repulski
Eldon "Rip" Repulski — the nickname stuck somewhere in the Cardinals' farm system, though he never could remember who hung it on him — starred in football, basketball, and baseball at St. Cloud State before entering the St. Louis chain in 1947. A right-handed-hitting outfielder, he broke in with the 1953 Cardinals, and in 1954 rapped two or more hits in ten straight games, going 22-for-44. An All-Star in 1956, he was traded to Philadelphia that November with Bobby Morgan for fan favorite Del Ennis — this card shows him in his first Phillies season, when his 20 home runs led the club. Later stops brought a 1959 World Series ring with the Dodgers and a grand slam at Fenway Park in his first American League at-bat in 1960. Over nine seasons he hit .269 with 106 homers and 416 RBIs, then went home to Minnesota, running a St. Cloud cocktail lounge and working in the Great Northern Railway shops.
