1960 Topps #408 Carl Furillo
Cards #375-440 were printed on two back stocks, white and gray. White is the scarcer of the two, and the difference is the tint of the cardboard on the reverse — it is a stock variation, not a design change, so both backs read identically.

About Carl Furillo
Carl "Skoonj" Furillo spent his entire major-league career, 1946 to 1960, patrolling right field for the Dodgers through their Brooklyn and Los Angeles years. Missing three seasons to Army combat duty in the Pacific during World War II, he returned to become one of the National League's most feared outfield arms, leading the league in assists twice and earning the nickname "the Reading Rifle" for the powerful throws he uncorked as property of the Dodgers' Reading, Pennsylvania farm club. A two-time All-Star, he won the 1953 NL batting title at .344, still the highest average by a right-handed Dodgers hitter since 1900, and helped Brooklyn/Los Angeles to seven pennants and titles in 1955 and 1959. His other nickname, "Skoonj," came from scungilli, the Italian seafood dish he loved. This 1960 Topps #408, from his final big-league season, exists with both white and gray card-stock backs, a Series 5 printing quirk in which the white-back version is the tougher find for collectors.

Graded population — a scarcity guide, not a price. Snapshot 2026-08-20. Half grades fold down for both graders (8.5→8); PSA qualified slabs (OC, ST, PD, MC and the like) are not counted. Neither grader separates the white and gray back stocks on this card, so the counts below cover both. The Venezuelan issue, the 1960 Topps Tattoos and Bazooka are separate products and are not counted here.
