About Dave Sisler
David Michael Sisler, the youngest son of Hall of Famer George Sisler, starred at Princeton before signing with the Boston Red Sox in 1953. After two years of Army service, the right-hander debuted in 1956 and went 24-25 as a Red Sox starter through 1958, winning the Harry Agganis Award as Boston's top rookie and being named to the 1956 major league All-Star Rookie team. Four straight wins over the Yankees by mid-1957 earned him the nickname "Yankee Killer" from Pittsburgh Press writer Chester L. Smith. Traded to Detroit in 1959, Sisler moved to the bullpen and posted a career-best 2.48 ERA in 1960, the season pictured on this card. Washington took him in the 1960 expansion draft, and he closed his seven-year career with Cincinnati in 1962, finishing 38-44 with 355 strikeouts.
