1960 Topps #397 Don Blasingame
Cards #375-440 were printed on two back stocks, white and gray. White is the scarcer of the two, and the difference is the tint of the cardboard on the reverse — it is a stock variation, not a design change, so both backs read identically.

About Don Blasingame
Don Blasingame, nicknamed "The Blazer," was a slick-fielding, speedy second baseman who broke in with the St. Louis Cardinals in September 1955 after two years of Army service delayed his pro debut. The nickname traced to his 1954 season with the Class AA Houston Buffaloes, where teammates dubbed him "Blazing-game" for his daring baserunning; it was quickly shortened to "Blazer" and stuck for the rest of his career. Blasingame took over St. Louis's second-base job from Red Schoendienst in 1956, led the National League in at-bats in 1957, and made his only All-Star team in 1958. Traded to the Giants after the 1959 season, he manned second base for San Francisco in 1960, the year Topps pictured him on card #397 - issued in the scarce high-number fifth series, which exists with both gray and white card-back stock, the white noticeably tougher to find. He later reached the 1961 World Series with Cincinnati and played 12 big-league seasons before a long second career playing, coaching, and managing in Japan.

Graded population — a scarcity guide, not a price. Snapshot 2026-08-20. Half grades fold down for both graders (8.5→8); PSA qualified slabs (OC, ST, PD, MC and the like) are not counted. Neither grader separates the white and gray back stocks on this card, so the counts below cover both. The Venezuelan issue, the 1960 Topps Tattoos and Bazooka are separate products and are not counted here.
