The players on this card
The 1960 Topps Coaches subset gathers Walter Alston's Dodgers staff on one card. Bobby Bragan, an infielder-turned-catcher for the Phillies and Dodgers from 1940-48 who later managed the Pirates and Indians, signed on as Alston's third-base coach for the season before leaving to run Houston's expansion farm system. Pete Reiser, the Dodgers' "Pistol Pete" of the 1940s who won the 1941 NL batting title and made three All-Star teams before injuries shortened his playing career, had just won The Sporting News' 1959 Minor League Manager of the Year Award; he joined Alston's staff in 1960 and stayed through the 1963 championship. Joe Becker, a former Cleveland Indians catcher, had been the Dodgers' pitching coach since 1955, guiding the staffs that won the 1955 and 1959 World Series. Greg Mulleavy, an infielder with the White Sox and Red Sox who managed Montreal to the 1955 International League pennant, coached first base for Los Angeles in 1960.
