1960 Topps #410 Sam Jones
Cards #375-440 were printed on two back stocks, white and gray. White is the scarcer of the two, and the difference is the tint of the cardboard on the reverse — it is a stock variation, not a design change, so both backs read identically.

About Sam Jones
Samuel "Toothpick" Jones broke in with the Cleveland Buckeyes of the Negro American League in 1947 before signing with the Cleveland Indians organization in 1949 and reaching the majors in 1951. The 6-foot-4 right-hander built a fearsome sweeping curveball and no shortage of wildness, leading the National League in strikeouts and walks three times (1955, 1956, 1958) while pitching for the Cubs and Cardinals. On May 12, 1955, he no-hit the Pittsburgh Pirates at Wrigley Field, becoming the first African-American pitcher to throw a major-league no-hitter. Traded to the Giants before the 1959 season, Jones had his finest year, leading the league with 21 wins and a 2.83 ERA and earning NL Pitcher of the Year honors from The Sporting News. A two-time All-Star (1955, 1959) and member of the "Black Aces" fraternity of 20-game winners, he got his nickname for the toothpick he always kept in his mouth on the mound. His 1960 Topps card (#410) catches him with San Francisco fresh off that career year, part of the high-number Series 5 run issued on both white and gray card stock, the white variety the tougher find today.

Graded population — a scarcity guide, not a price. Snapshot 2026-08-20. Half grades fold down for both graders (8.5→8); PSA qualified slabs (OC, ST, PD, MC and the like) are not counted. Neither grader separates the white and gray back stocks on this card, so the counts below cover both. The Venezuelan issue, the 1960 Topps Tattoos and Bazooka are separate products and are not counted here.
