The story on this card
Card 138, in the World Series subset of 1965 Topps print series 2, recaps Game 7 of the 1964 World Series, won by the St. Louis Cardinals over the New York Yankees. The front pictures Bob Gibson, who started that finale on two days' rest, working to hide his fatigue from the Yankees. St. Louis scored three runs in the bottom of the fourth; in the fifth, Lou Brock homered on Al Downing's first pitch and two more runs made it 6-0. Mickey Mantle's three-run homer and Ken Boyer's solo shot made it 7-3, but Clete Boyer and Phil Linz homered for New York to cut the margin to 7-5. Bobby Richardson popped out to end the Series. Gibson was named World Series MVP, posting a 2-1 record, 3.00 ERA, and 31 strikeouts over 27 innings in the series.
