1970 Topps #487 Cisco Carlos

About Cisco Carlos
Washington bought Cisco Carlos from the White Sox on August 25, 1969, two years to the day after his major league debut. His 1970 Topps card, #487 in the fifth series, lists him with the Senators. He pitched in five games for them in 1970, posting a 1.50 ERA over 6 innings, before going to the minors, where he went 13-9 with the Senators' Triple A club, the Denver Bears of the American Association.
Francisco Manuel Carlos, a right-handed pitcher born in Monrovia, California, signed with the Chicago White Sox as an amateur free agent in 1961 after pitching for the University of Northern Colorado in the 1960 College World Series. He spent six seasons working through the White Sox farm system, posting a 15-8 record in Double-A in 1966 and an 11-8 mark with a 2.63 ERA in Triple-A in 1967 before a late-August call-up. His rookie season came during a tight four-team American League pennant race, and he beat the Detroit Tigers and, days later, the Cleveland Indians that September to help keep the White Sox in contention. He pitched for the White Sox into 1969, then was sold to the Washington Senators, closing out his major league career there in 1970 with a career line of 11-18, a 3.72 ERA and 119 strikeouts over four seasons. After retiring from professional baseball, he founded a kitchen and bath design and renovation business in the Phoenix, Arizona area.
