1975 Topps #392 Bruce Bochte

About Bruce Bochte
Bruce Anton Bochte, a left-handed first baseman/outfielder, was California's second-round pick (34th overall) in the 1972 draft out of Santa Clara University, after starring at Arcadia High School. He hit .355 with nine homers for Triple-A Salt Lake City in 1974 before debuting with the Angels that July as a pinch runner. Card #392 in the 1975 Topps set is his recognized rookie card, issued during his first full big-league season. Bochte spent four seasons in Anaheim before a May 1977 trade sent him to Cleveland, then signed with Seattle that winter. His finest season came in 1979, when he hit .316 with 16 homers and 100 RBI and earned his only All-Star selection. He sat out all of 1983, saying he was "fed up with the business of baseball and worried about the state of the world," then returned with Oakland from 1984-86 and retired with a .282 average, 100 home runs and 658 RBI. He was inducted into the Santa Clara Athletic Hall of Fame in 1987.
