1975 Topps #127 Glenn Borgmann

About Glenn Borgmann
Glenn Dennis Borgmann broke into the majors with the Minnesota Twins on July 1, 1972, taking over as the club's starting catcher during the second half of that season. After spending most of 1973 back in the minors, he returned for good in 1974, batting .252 in 128 games while leading all American League catchers with a .997 fielding percentage — the finest season of his career. His 1975 Topps card catches him coming off that year, printed just before his average slipped to .207 in 1975; rookie Butch Wynegar then took over as the Twins' starting catcher in 1976, and Borgmann settled into four seasons as his backup. He closed out his playing days with the Chicago White Sox in 1980, then a brief 1981 stop in the Cleveland Indians' minor league system. Over nine big-league seasons the right-handed catcher hit .229 with 16 home runs and 151 RBI, remembered as South Alabama's first All-American and a sure-handed receiver for a Twins team in transition.
