About Tony Muser
Tony Muser was a left-handed-hitting first baseman who signed with the Boston Red Sox as a free agent in May 1967 after standout play at San Diego Mesa College, then made his major-league debut on September 14, 1969. Dealt to the Chicago White Sox, he claimed the starting first-base job in 1973 and delivered the best season of his nine-year career, hitting .285 with career-highs of 4 home runs and 30 RBIs in 109 games — the form captured on his 1975 Topps card, issued while he was still a member of the ChiSox. Chicago traded him to Baltimore for pitcher Jesse Jefferson at the June 15, 1975 deadline. Muser finished his playing days with Milwaukee in 1978 and a season for Japan's Seibu Lions in 1979, retiring with a .259 average. He went on to a long second act in the dugout, coaching 14 major-league seasons and managing the Kansas City Royals from 1997 to 2002.
