This is one of the eleven combo cards scattered through the 1960 Topps set, each pairing two or three players under a nickname headline rather than giving one man his own card.
The players on this card
"American League Kings" paired the reigning AL MVP with the season's batting champion, spotlighting the American League's top two hitters of 1959. Nellie Fox, the scrappy White Sox second baseman, anchored the "Go-Go" Sox to their first pennant in 40 years that season, batting .306 and leading the league in singles; he narrowly edged teammate Luis Aparicio for AL MVP honors. A 12-time All-Star known for his choked-up bottle bat and knack for making contact, Fox reached Cooperstown in 1997. Harvey Kuenn, Detroit's versatile infielder-turned-outfielder, captured the 1959 AL batting crown at .353, also topping the league in hits and doubles. That same April, Detroit traded Kuenn to Cleveland in a stunning one-for-one swap for reigning AL home run co-champion Rocky Colavito, sending two of the league's headline hitters in opposite directions just as this card went to press.
