About Casey Wise
Kendall Cole "Casey" Wise reached the majors as a slick-fielding second baseman, breaking in with the Chicago Cubs in 1957 after starring for the pennant-winning 1956 Los Angeles Angels of the Pacific Coast League. Traded to the Milwaukee Braves, he filled in during Red Schoendienst's injury-plagued stretches and got a pinch-hit at-bat against the Yankees in the 1958 World Series as Milwaukee won its second straight pennant. Card #342 in the 1960 Topps set catches him with his final big-league club, the Detroit Tigers, whom he'd joined after Milwaukee traded him following the 1959 season. He stepped into the lineup when Frank Bolling's infant son died, and delivered the best game of his career on April 24, 1960 — two home runs, a triple and five RBIs. His nickname, "Casey," traced simply to his initials, K.C., for Kendall Cole. A .174 career hitter over four seasons, Wise later became Naples, Florida's first orthodontist.
