About Danny McDevitt
Danny McDevitt broke into the majors with the Brooklyn Dodgers on June 17, 1957, after his path there was delayed by two years of Army service during the Korean War. Just months later, on September 24, 1957, the left-hander started and won the last game ever played at Ebbets Field, a 2-0, nine-strikeout shutout over Pittsburgh; two weeks after that game, owner Walter O'Malley announced the franchise's move to Los Angeles. McDevitt's 1960 Topps card (#333) catches him with that Dodgers club the year after his career year, a 10-8 mark in 1959 that helped Los Angeles win its first World Series, though he did not pitch in the Series and slumped to 0-4 in 1960. He closed out his six-year career with the Yankees, Twins, and Kansas City Athletics in 1961-62, then turned to umpiring in the minors after arm injuries ended his playing days. As of 2009 he remained the last major leaguer produced by St. Bonaventure University.
