1960 Topps #351 Don Nottebart

About Don Nottebart
Don Nottebart's 1960 Topps card, #351, is a recognized rookie card, catching him with the Milwaukee Braves the same summer he debuted in the majors after seven seasons working through Milwaukee's deep farm system. Signed out of Lexington, Massachusetts in 1954, the right-hander idolized Braves ace Warren Spahn so intensely that he taught himself to pitch by watching Spahn's television reflection and mirroring his motion. Traded to Houston after the 1962 season, Nottebart etched his name into franchise history on May 17, 1963, throwing the first no-hitter in Colt .45s/Astros history, a 4-1 win over Philadelphia at Colt Stadium; that year he posted a career-best 11-8 record with a 3.17 ERA. He later worked mostly in relief for Cincinnati, surrendered Willie Mays's 500th career home run in 1965, and closed out a nine-year, five-team career in 1969 with the Yankees and Cubs, finishing 36-51 with 525 strikeouts over 296 games.
