1960 Topps #482 Frank Bolling

About Frank Bolling
A rock-solid defensive second baseman, Frank Bolling signed with the Detroit Tigers as an amateur free agent in 1951 out of Mobile, Alabama, and reached the majors in 1954. After military service in 1955, he anchored Detroit's infield through 1960, the season pictured on this card. His finest year came in 1958, when he set career highs in hits (164), doubles (27), runs and RBIs (75) while leading American League second basemen in fielding percentage en route to a Gold Glove. That same year his brother Milt joined Detroit at shortstop, briefly making the Bollings one of only four brother combinations to man the keystone together in major league history. Traded to Milwaukee after 1960 for Bill Bruton, Bolling made both his All-Star teams as a Brave in 1961 and 1962, then hit the only grand slam of his career off Sandy Koufax in the Braves' 1965 Milwaukee finale. He finished with a .254 average, 106 homers, and 556 RBIs across twelve seasons, all at second base.
