1960 Topps #413 Kansas City Athletics

American League · Team Card subset · Series 5 · Card #413 of 572
White / gray backTeam Card

Kansas City Athletics team card — carries the series checklist on the back.

Cards #375-440 were printed on two back stocks, white and gray. White is the scarcer of the two, and the difference is the tint of the cardboard on the reverse — it is a stock variation, not a design change, so both backs read identically.

About this card

The sixteen team cards pair a club photo with a team record box, and their backs carry the printed checklist for a run of the set.

The players on this card

The 1960 Athletics closed out the American League's last season as an eight-team circuit with a franchise-worst 58-96 record, finishing eighth and dead last, 39 games behind the pennant-winning New York Yankees. Manager Bob Elliott's club went just 24-53 on the road while playing home games at Municipal Stadium. The season began under a cloud: on March 10, 1960, owner Arnold Johnson died at 53, and that fall his estate sold the club to Chicago businessman Charlie Finley. Kansas City had already dealt with New York that winter, sending Roger Maris, Joe DeMaestri, and Kent Hadley to the Yankees on December 11, 1959, for Don Larsen, Hank Bauer, Norm Siebern, and Marv Throneberry - the latest in a long run of one-sided trades that left the A's tagged as New York's Kansas City farm team.

Graded population — a scarcity guide, not a price. Snapshot 2026-08-20. Half-grades fold down (8.5→8), and PSA's qualified grades are counted separately from the straight-grade rows shown here. Neither grader separates the white and gray back stocks on this card, so the counts below cover both. The Venezuelan issue, the 1960 Topps Tattoos and Bazooka are separate products and are not counted here.
