About Norm Siebern
Norm Siebern signed with the Yankees out of St. Louis's Wellston High School in 1951, then lost two seasons to Army service before breaking in with New York in June 1956, earning a World Series ring from the bench. He tore up the American Association at Denver in 1957, winning The Sporting News Minor League Player of the Year award, then claimed the Yankees' left-field job for good in 1958, batting .300 and winning a Gold Glove, though sun-swallowed fly balls in Yankee Stadium's shadowed left field got him benched for the rest of that fall's World Series. That December he became a headline piece in one of baseball's most famous trades, dealt to the Kansas City Athletics with Hank Bauer, Don Larsen, and Marv Throneberry for Roger Maris. Card #11 catches him in his first season in Kansas City green and gold. He thrived there, shifting to first base in 1961 and stringing together four All-Star selections from 1962-1964, three with the A's and one after a trade to Baltimore, peaking in 1962 at .308 with 25 homers and 117 RBIs, second in the league. He played twelve big-league seasons, retiring in 1968 with a .272 average, 132 homers, and 636 RBIs.
