Cards #375-440 were printed on two back stocks, white and gray. White is the scarcer of the two, and the difference is the tint of the cardboard on the reverse — it is a stock variation, not a design change, so both backs read identically.
About Marv Throneberry
Marvin Eugene Throneberry signed with the New York Yankees out of South Side High School in Memphis in 1952 and became one of the American Association's most feared sluggers, leading the league in home runs three straight seasons (1955-57) and winning MVP honors in 1956. Blocked by Bill Skowron in New York, he appeared in the 1958 World Series with a championship Yankees club before the December 1959 trade that sent him to the Kansas City Athletics for Roger Maris. His 1960 Topps card, #436, catches him at first base in an Athletics uniform, the year he settled into semi-regular duty and hit 11 home runs; it's part of the Series 5 print run issued with both white and gray card-back stock, the white scarcer today. Dealt to Baltimore in 1961 and on to the expansion Mets in 1962, Throneberry became "Marvelous Marv," his mix of clutch homers and comic misadventures on a 120-loss team making him a folk hero later celebrated in Miller Lite beer commercials.
