About this card
Cards #455-470 are the coaches subset, unique to 1960 - each card stacks three or four of a club's coaches on a single front, a format Topps never repeated.
The players on this card
Casey Stengel's 1960 staff paired a Hall of Famer with three Yankee lifers. Bill Dickey, the .313-hitting catcher who won eight world titles in 17 seasons and entered Cooperstown in 1954, had returned in 1949 to tutor Yogi Berra and later Elston Howard behind the plate before moving into a scouting role by 1959-60. Frank Crosetti, an eight-time champion shortstop turned "the Crow" of the third-base coaching box, was beginning his 30th Yankee season, a run that eventually saw him wave home more than 16,000 runners. Ralph Houk, Berra's backup catcher through 1954, coached first base and even ran the club for a stretch in late May while Stengel was hospitalized — a preview of his promotion to manager that October. Ed Lopat, the crafty lefty nicknamed "Steady Eddie" and "the Junk Man" for out-pitching harder throwers, worked his only season as pitching coach in 1960 and was let go when Houk took over.
