Cards #375-440 were printed on two back stocks, white and gray. White is the scarcer of the two, and the difference is the tint of the cardboard on the reverse — it is a stock variation, not a design change, so both backs read identically.
About Norm Larker
Norman Howard John Larker signed with the Hazleton Mountaineers in 1949, joined the Brooklyn Dodgers chain in 1950, and spent eight minor-league seasons before winning a roster spot with the first-year Los Angeles Dodgers in 1958. The left-handed-hitting first baseman was a key piece of L.A.'s 1959 championship run, going 5-for-8 with three RBIs as the Dodgers swept Milwaukee in the NL pennant playoff, then starting all six games of the World Series win over the White Sox. His best season came in 1960: with Gil Hodges injured, Larker took over at first base and hit a career-high .323 with 142 hits and 78 RBIs, finishing second to Pittsburgh's Dick Groat for the NL batting title by two-thousandths of a point and earning his only All-Star selection. He opened at first for the expansion Houston Colt .45s in 1962 before closing his six-year career with Milwaukee and San Francisco in 1963. His 1960 Topps card, #394, pictures him with the Dodgers and comes from the scarce high-number Series 5 run, issued with a white-back or gray-back stock variation, the white notably tougher to find.
