The players on this card
The 1960 Pirates delivered Pittsburgh its first pennant in 33 years and first World Series title since 1925, finishing 95-59 under manager Danny Murtaugh, seven games clear of Milwaukee. Shortstop Dick Groat won the NL batting title (.325) and the MVP award despite a broken wrist that ended his regular season in September; right-hander Vern Law claimed the Cy Young with 20 wins. Roberto Clemente hit .314, and Gold Glove second baseman Bill Mazeroski anchored the infield. Facing the heavily favored Yankees, the Pirates were outscored 55-27 across the Series yet split the games, winning the close ones. In Game 7 at Forbes Field, Pittsburgh rallied from a late deficit, and Mazeroski's ninth-inning walk-off home run off Ralph Terry - the only series-ending homer ever hit in a World Series Game 7 - clinched the championship, 10-9.
