The players on this card
Card #469 gathers three of the Giants' 1960 coaches, serving under Bill Rigney and, after his June firing, Tom Sheehan. Wes Westrum, a two-time All-Star who caught for the Giants from 1947-1957 and started all four games of the club's 1954 World Series sweep, retired as a player when the team moved to San Francisco in 1958 and stayed on as first-base coach through 1960. Salty Parker, whose own big-league playing career totaled 11 games with the 1936 Tigers, coached third base for the Giants from 1958-1961 after years managing in the minor leagues. Bill Posedel, a hard-throwing right-hander who won 15 games for the 1939 Boston Bees and picked up the nickname "Barnacle Bill" from sportswriters recalling his Navy hitch, ran the Giants' pitching staff in 1959-1960, credited with helping veteran Sam Jones resurrect his career before Larry Jansen succeeded him.
