The story on this card
Redmond's last major league game was on September 18, 1969. Topps ran him on #728 in its sixth series, a three-player Rookie Stars card that pairs him with Keith Lampard, shown with the Houston Astros, and Bernie Williams, shown with the San Francisco Giants. Redmond himself is printed with the Philadelphia Phillies. It is Redmond's rookie card. Wayne Redmond was an outfielder born in Athens, Alabama, who played nine games for the Tigers, in 1965 and 1969, and spent the rest of a nine-year career, ending in 1973, in the minors. He hit 31 home runs in his first pro season.
At Oklahoma City in 1971, Lampard hit a career-high .337 with eight home runs and was MVP of the American Association All-Star game. He finished his social science degree at Oregon that March. Card #728 is a sixth-series, three-man Rookie Stars card, pairing him with the Astros beside Wayne Redmond of the Phillies and Bernie Williams of the Giants. It was Redmond's rookie card. Keith Lampard, an English-born outfielder raised in Portland, Oregon, played 62 games for the Houston Astros in 1969 and 1970. His only major-league home run, a two-run pinch-hit shot off Wayne Granger on September 19, 1969, ended a game at the Astrodome.
Williams played 35 games in 1971 and hit .178 in 73 at-bats. He had one home run and five RBI. His card is #728, a three-player Rookie Stars issue from the sixth series that lists Wayne Redmond with the Phillies, Keith Lampard with the Astros and Williams with the Giants. Outfielder and pinch hitter who played 102 major league games for the Giants (1970-72) and Padres (1974), hitting .192 with four home runs, then played for Japan's Hankyu Braves from 1975 to 1980.
