The story on this card
Boone's rookie card is the 1973 Topps Rookies card, #613, which he shares with Skip Jutze and Mike Ivie, and it is a high number from the fifth series. Boone is printed with the Phillies, Jutze with the Astros and Ivie with the Padres. Boone's own 1972 was a September call-up: 16 games, a .275 average and one home run in 51 at-bats. Bob Boone was a defensive catcher for the Phillies, Angels and Royals from 1972 to 1990. A four-time All-Star with seven Gold Gloves, he caught for the 1980 World Series champions, and he later managed Kansas City and Cincinnati.
Jutze got into 90 games for Houston in 1973 and hit .223. He collected 62 hits in 278 at-bats and drove in 18 runs. His #613 is a Rookie Catchers card shared with Bob Boone of the Phillies and Mike Ivie of the Padres, with Jutze printed as an Astro. Skip Jutze appeared in 254 big league games, mostly as a catcher, between 1972 and 1977 for the Cardinals, Astros and Mariners. He hit .215 with 3 home runs, one of them the first grand slam in Mariners history, on May 17, 1977.
Ivie spent 1973 in the minors and quit again, leaving the Hawaii Islanders at the Portland airport on June 15 after 59 games, saying he was tired of traveling. Card #613 is a fifth-series high number, the Rookies card that places him with Bob Boone of the Phillies and Skip Jutze of the Astros. Mike Ivie was the first overall pick of the 1970 draft, taken by San Diego as a catcher. He became a first baseman for the Padres, Giants, Astros and Tigers, hitting .269 with 81 home runs, including 27 for San Francisco in 1979.
