About A's Do It Again!
"A's Do It Again!" closes 1975 Topps' 1974 postseason subset (#459-466), tracing Oakland's third straight run to a championship. The A's beat Baltimore 3-1 in the ALCS, capped by Vida Blue's two-hit, 1-0 win over Jim Palmer on a Sal Bando homer and a 2-1 Game 4 clincher saved by Rollie Fingers. Los Angeles ousted Pittsburgh 3-1 in the NLCS, blowing the series open with a 12-1 Game 4 rout keyed by two Steve Garvey homers. The all-California World Series that followed stayed close -- four of the five games finished 3-2 -- as Oakland swept its three home games after splitting the first two in Los Angeles, becoming the first team since the 1949-53 Yankees to win three straight titles. Fingers, shown here with Reggie Jackson and bullpen coach Wes Stock, worked four of the five Series games for a win and two saves, earning World Series MVP.
