About Ed Halicki

A 6-foot-7 right-hander out of Kearny, New Jersey, Ed Halicki was originally drafted by the St. Louis Cardinals out of high school in 1968 but instead pitched at Monmouth University, where the Giants took him in the 24th round of the 1972 draft. He debuted for San Francisco on July 8, 1974, and by his second full season had established himself in the rotation — the campaign pictured on his 1975 Topps #467 card, his recognized rookie issue. On August 24, 1975, Halicki no-hit the New York Mets 6-0 at home, the last home no-hitter by a Giants pitcher until Jonathan Sánchez matched the feat in 2009. He won a career-high 16 games in 1977 and posted a 2.85 ERA in 1978, a season that also produced his only big-league save, closing out a 7-6 win over the rival Dodgers. Halicki pitched seven MLB seasons (1974-1980) with the Giants and Angels, finishing 55-66 with 707 strikeouts.
