1975 Topps #31 Dave Rader

About Dave Rader
Dave Rader broke in with the San Francisco Giants in 1971, a year after San Francisco used its 1967 first-round pick (18th overall) to sign the Bakersfield, California, high schooler for a $40,000 bonus. He won the Giants' starting catching job in 1972, hit .259, and topped Jon Matlack in balloting for The Sporting News' NL Rookie of the Year award. Card #31 catches him in the middle of his six-season run behind the plate in San Francisco, a stretch that included a .291 average in both 1974 and 1975 and a signature moment: catching Ed Halicki's no-hitter against the Mets on August 24, 1975. Traded to St. Louis that October, Rader played a decade in the majors (1971-80) across five clubs — the Giants, Cardinals, Cubs, Phillies, and Red Sox — finishing with a .257 average, 30 home runs, and 235 RBIs in 846 games.
