About Reggie Cleveland
Reginald Leslie Cleveland, a right-hander out of Swift Current, Saskatchewan, signed with the Cardinals as a 17-year-old in 1965 after a traveling scout spotted him pitching semipro ball. He reached St. Louis for good in 1970 and was named The Sporting News' National League Rookie Pitcher of the Year in 1971, working alongside Bob Gibson and Steve Carlton in the rotation. Traded to Boston in December 1973, Cleveland's 1975 Topps card catches him mid-career with the pennant-winning Red Sox, for whom he started Game 2 of the ALCS and Game 5 of the World Series against the Reds, then got the final out of Game 7 in a Series Boston ultimately lost. Teammates nicknamed him "Snacks" for a running battle with his weight. He finished with 105 wins, a 3.73 ERA and 930 strikeouts across 13 seasons for four clubs, and was inducted into the Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame in 1986.
