About 1974 World Series Game 5
Card #465 in the 1975 Topps postseason subset captures Game 5 of the 1974 World Series, played October 17 before 49,347 fans at Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum. Vida Blue built a 2-0 Athletics lead on Sal Bando's sacrifice fly and a Ray Fosse home run, but Jimmy Wynn's sacrifice fly and Steve Garvey's RBI single tied it 2-2 for the Dodgers in the sixth. Blue Moon Odom relieved Blue to end a Dodgers threat in the seventh, then Joe Rudi led off the bottom of the inning with a home run off Mike Marshall, making Odom the winning pitcher. Rollie Fingers closed out the final two innings for the save and was named World Series MVP. Los Angeles' last threat ended in the eighth when Bill Buckner tried to stretch a hit into a triple and was thrown out at third on a relay from Reggie Jackson to Dick Green to Sal Bando. Oakland's 3-2 win clinched its third straight championship, the first three-peat since the 1949-53 Yankees.
