1975 Topps #93 Dave Lopes

About Dave Lopes
Dave Lopes broke into pro ball with the Los Angeles Dodgers organization after they took him in the second round of the January 1968 draft, following an unsigned stint with the Giants; he debuted in the majors on September 22, 1972, at age 27. Converted from the outfield to second base by Tommy Lasorda, Lopes anchored the longest-running infield in major league history alongside Steve Garvey, Ron Cey, and Bill Russell, helping the Dodgers to four National League pennants and the 1981 World Series title. His 1975 Topps card catches him entering his signature season: that year he stole 77 bases to lead the NL, including a then-record 38 consecutive steals without being caught, and he added a second stolen-base crown in 1976. A four-time All-Star (1978-81) and 1978 Gold Glove winner, he hit three home runs in the 1978 World Series and set a single-postseason stolen-base record (10-for-10) in 1981. Lopes later managed the Brewers and coached six big-league clubs, including the 2008 champion Phillies, before his death in April 2026 at age 80.
