1975 Topps #186 Willie Crawford

About Willie Crawford
Willie Murphy Crawford signed with the Los Angeles Dodgers for a $100,000 bonus two days after graduating from Fremont High School in Los Angeles in 1964, and under the era's bonus rule had to stay on the big-league roster rather than start in the minors. He debuted that September at 18 and earned a World Series ring in 1965, delivering a pinch-hit single in Game 1 as the Dodgers beat the Twins in seven. Crawford grew into an everyday outfielder by the late 1960s, playing shallow to cut off Texas Leaguers and using his strong arm and speed to run down deep fly balls. His best years came in 1973 and 1974, hitting .295 both seasons, then batting .333 with a home run against Oakland in the 1974 World Series. His 1975 Topps #186 card captures his final Dodgers season; he was traded to St. Louis that March, closing out a 12-year career with the Cardinals, Astros and Athletics and a .268 average, 86 homers, and 419 RBI over 1,210 games.
