About Bob Forsch
Bob Forsch's 1975 Topps card #51 is his recognized rookie card. Drafted by the Cardinals in the 26th round of the 1968 draft as a third baseman, he was hitting well under .250 in the low minors when St. Louis converted him to a pitcher at Class A Lewiston in 1970. He debuted for the Cardinals on July 7, 1974, and pitched 16 big-league seasons — St. Louis (1974-1988) and Houston (1988-1989) — finishing 168-136 with a 3.76 ERA and 1,133 strikeouts. A 20-game winner in 1977, Forsch is the only pitcher in Cardinals history to throw more than one no-hitter, beating the Phillies on April 16, 1978, and the Expos on September 26, 1983; he and his brother Ken are the only siblings to each throw a big-league no-hitter. He helped St. Louis win the 1982 World Series and NL pennants in 1985 and 1987, and as one of the sport's best-hitting pitchers he won NL Silver Slugger Awards in 1980 (the award's first year) and 1987. St. Louis inducted him into its team Hall of Fame in 2015; he died in 2011 at age 61.
