1975 Topps #428 Dave Hamilton

About Dave Hamilton
Dave Hamilton, a left-hander out of Edmonds, Washington, was pitching for the Iowa Oaks in the minors when Oakland owner Charlie Finley put him on a plane in May 1972 to make his major-league debut — a win over the Texas Rangers. Hamilton stuck as a swingman on Oakland's 1972-74 world champions, working twice in the 1972 World Series against Cincinnati, including a relay from Alou to Tenace that erased a run at the plate in Game Five. Moved into the rotation in 1974, he threw his only career complete-game shutout that June, escaping a bases-loaded jam against the Angels after a near no-hitter was broken up in the sixth. Oakland traded him to the Chicago White Sox in mid-1975, where he settled into relief work and picked up 25 saves over three seasons; he also pitched for the Cardinals and Pirates before closing out his career with a return to Oakland in 1979-80. He retired with a 39-41 record, a 3.85 ERA and 434 strikeouts, and later coached high-school baseball in San Ramon, California.
