1975 Topps #630 Greg Luzinski

About Greg Luzinski
Gregory Michael Luzinski, a bruising 6-foot-1, 220-pound left fielder, was Philadelphia's first-round pick (11th overall) in the 1968 draft and reached the majors as a pinch-hitter in September 1970. He starred for the Phillies from 1970-1980, forming a devastating power tandem with Mike Schmidt through the 1970s. Luzinski earned the nickname "the Bull" in the low minors at Eugene in 1971, a tag inspired by his thick chest and productive bat. A four-time All-Star (1975-78), he led the National League with 120 RBIs in 1975 and finished as NL MVP runner-up that year and again in 1977, when he hit career highs of .309 with 39 homers and 130 RBIs. His two biggest hits came in the 1980 NLCS against Houston, propelling Philadelphia to its first World Series title. He closed his career with the White Sox (1981-84), twice winning Designated Hitter of the Year. Card #630 in the 1975 Topps set captures Luzinski entering the finest all-around season of his career.
