1975 Topps #366 Ken Sanders

About Ken Sanders
Card #366 in the 1975 Topps set catches Ken Sanders with the California Angels, though a winter trade to the Mets had already moved him on by the time packs hit shelves. Born July 8, 1941, in St. Louis, Sanders signed with the Kansas City Athletics in 1960, converting from shortstop to pitcher in his first pro camp. He debuted August 6, 1964, and his career ran through 1976, touching eight organizations — the Athletics, Red Sox, Brewers, Twins, Indians, Angels, Mets and Royals. His signature season came with the last-place 1971 Milwaukee Brewers, where he led the majors with 83 appearances, set a major-league record by finishing 77 games, and topped the American League with 31 saves and a 1.91 ERA, earning The Sporting News' AL Reliever of the Year award. He closed out his Angels stint with nine appearances in 1974 before the trade to New York. Sanders retired in 1977 with a 2.97 career ERA and later joined the Brewers Wall of Honor.
