About Steve Mingori
Steve Mingori was a left-handed relief specialist who spent ten big-league seasons with the Cleveland Indians (1970-1973) and Kansas City Royals (1973-1979). Signed by the Cincinnati Reds in 1965, he worked five years in Cincinnati's farm system before a trade sent him to Cleveland, where he debuted on August 5, 1970. A broken jaw suffered in an August 1971 game cut his season short, but he still posted a 1.43 ERA in 54 appearances. In June 1973 the Royals, eager to bring the Kansas City native home, acquired him, and he became a bullpen fixture for the rest of the decade, working at least 30 games in six straight seasons. Mingori pitched in the ALCS against the Yankees in 1976, 1977, and 1978 without a decision, part of three straight Royals division champions. His rookie card is a 1971 Topps issue, years before this 1975 Kansas City card. He finished 18-33 with a 3.03 ERA and 42 saves in 385 games, all but two as a reliever.
