About the 1957 Detroit Tigers

The 1957 Detroit Tigers went 78-76 (.506), finishing fourth in the American League, 20 games behind the pennant-winning New York Yankees. It was the first season for manager Jack Tighe, who had succeeded Bucky Harris. The Tigers played at Briggs Stadium in Detroit. The roster featured young right fielder Al Kaline, who hit .295 with 23 home runs and 90 RBIs and won a Gold Glove, and right-hander Jim Bunning, whose breakout 20-8 record with a 2.69 ERA made him a 20-game winner. Shortstop Harvey Kuenn and slugging outfielder Charlie Maxwell (24 home runs) added support. Detroit did not reach the postseason.
