Cards #375-440 were printed on two back stocks, white and gray. White is the scarcer of the two, and the difference is the tint of the cardboard on the reverse — it is a stock variation, not a design change, so both backs read identically.
About Andre Rodgers
Kenneth André Ian Rodgers paid his own way to a 1954 New York Giants tryout despite having never played baseball — the Nassau, Bahamas native had starred only in cricket. He signed with the organization, adjusted to the unfamiliar curveball, and debuted on April 16, 1957, becoming the first Bahamian to play in the integrated majors. The rangy 6-foot-3 shortstop spent four seasons with the Giants (1957-1960) before a trade sent him to the Chicago Cubs, where in 1962 he took over at shortstop as Ernie Banks moved to first base; that year Rodgers, Banks, and second baseman Ken Hubbs set a league record for double plays. He closed his eleven-year career with the Pittsburgh Pirates (1965-1967), finishing with a .249 average, 45 home runs, and 245 RBIs in 854 games. His pioneering path inspired fellow Bahamians, most notably Ed Armbrister, who credited Rodgers with pushing him toward pro ball. His 1960 Topps card, #431 in the Series 5 print run, appears with white or gray back stock — the white-back version the scarcer find.
