The 1960 Topps team card caught the Indians mid-upheaval. Two days before Opening Day, on Easter Sunday, general manager Frank Lane traded 1959 AL home run king Rocky Colavito, a fan favorite who had hit 129 homers over his four seasons in right field at Cleveland Municipal Stadium, to Detroit for 1959 batting champion Harvey Kuenn—a deal Cleveland fans never forgave Lane for. The shakeups continued on August 3, when the Indians and Tigers swapped managers outright, sending Joe Gordon to Detroit for Jimmy Dykes, with coaches Jo-Jo White and Luke Appling trading dugouts days later to stay alongside their skippers. Lane's dealing, 95 trades across his Cleveland tenure, never built a contender. The club finished 76-78, fourth in the American League, 21 games behind the pennant-winning Yankees.
